Reading Books…

Posted: November 7, 2008 in General

So, I’ve been thinking about the things that I am reading online, in books, through blogs, in a magazine…Are they really teach me? Are they exposing me to change? Will I retain knowledge from these words that I choose to ‘eat?’ I am learning that the heart and mind are essential to being guarded… Philippians 4:7…so what we choose to see, read, and engage with will begin to define who I am.

You see – I am not a reader by nature or by heart. It takes discipline for me to seek out a book to read for pleasure. I do have to admit though that every year I set a goal to read one non-assigned book a month. This year I have been extremely behind because of overload in my MBA classes. But there are some that I would recommend to you as you will see below.

Recommendations:

Safe People – Drs. Cloud and Townsend

HUSH – Nicole Bromley

Gifted to Lead – Nancy Beach

Changes that Heal – Drs. Cloud and Townsend

Mentoring – Tim Elmore

Talent is Never Enough – J. Maxwell

These books have really shaped my thoughts about being who God would have me to be. Some days its simply a friend…others I am the mentor…and even still other days I am to be a safe person for someone who needs counseling.

Some books I am hoping to get my hands on for next year…

Crazy Love – Francis Chan

Love & Respect – Dr. Emerson Eggerichs

John – Beth Moore

Gracism – David Anderson

IT by Craig Croeschel

What is it that defines you? Do you follow a particular blog or podcast? How do you get fueled up, especially if you’re a leader, to keep going even when you’re tired?
